PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Mark Naclerio (Milford, Conn.) and senior Marco De Filippo (Auronzo Di Cadore, Italy) of the Brown men's hockey team were named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week and Goaltender of the Week, respectively, announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
Naclerio recorded seven points with three goals and was a plus-6 in a pair of games last week, leading the Bears to a perfect 2-0-0 showing at the Liberty Hockey Invitational. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in the team's season-opening 4-1 victory over defending national champion Yale Friday. The sophomore came back the next day and once again scored the game-winning tally to go along with three helpers for a career-high four points in a 5-3 win against Dartmouth. For his efforts, Naclerio was named MVP of the Liberty Hockey Invitational.
De Filippo backboned the Bears to a season-opening 3-1 victory over defending national champion Yale in the first game of the Liberty Hockey Invitational Friday. He made 31 saves in net for the Bears, including 14 in the third period, while his one goal allowed came just seconds after a power-play as he improved to 1-0-0 on the season.
Following Brown's impressive opening weekend, the Bears received 54 votes in the latest USCHO National Poll, just two spots out of a national ranking.
Brown returns to action on Friday, Nov. 1 when the Bears play host to No. 17 Clarkson at 7 p.m. in the 2013-14 home opener. Brown will then host St. Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. For tickets, purchase online, call the Brown Athletics Ticket Office at (401) 863-2773, or walk up to the Box Office located in the Pizzitola Sports Center, open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
