PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario), a forward on the Brown men's hockey team, was a named one of the top-five candidates from ECAC Hockey to win the Hobey Baker Award for the 2013-14 season, recently announced by SB Nation.
Lorito was joined by senior forwards Greg Carey (St. Lawrence), Andrew Calof (Princeton) and Kenny Agostino (Yale) and senior goaltender Jason Kasdorf (RPI) on the website's list of the ECAC's top-five candidates to take home the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented annually to the nation's outstanding Division I men's college hockey player.
The junior ranked second in the ECAC with 22 goals last season, while seven of those tallies came in the ECAC Tournament, including a two-goal performance in an upset victory over top-seeded Quinnipiac in the ECAC Semifinals. Lorito, who ranked first on the team with 37 points, earned All-ECAC Second Team honors and was recently named to the ECAC Hockey Media Association's 2013-14 preseason all-conference team.
The Bears open their 2013-14 campaign against defending national champion Yale on Friday, October 25, at the Liberty Hockey Invitational, to be played at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
