PROVIDENCE, RI – After sweeping Clarkson in its First Round series this past weekend, the Brown men's hockey team (13-12-6) will travel to Troy, New York to face #15 Rensselaer (17-12-5) in a best-of-three Quarterfinal series Friday, March 15, Saturday, March 16, and Sunday, March 17 (if necessary). Brown was 0-1-1 against RPI during the regular season, playing to a 3-3 tie at Meehan Auditorium in December, and falling to the Engineers, 5-1, at Houston Field House in mid-February.
The Bears hosted their first playoff series since the 2005 season, defeating Clarkson, 3-0 in game one, and 4-3 in game two. This weekend's trip to the Quarterfinals marks the first time since 2010 that Brown has won its First Round series.
Brown will be facing RPI in the ECAC Playoffs for the just the fourth time. The two teams played each other in the First Round in 2010 (at RPI) and in 2005 (at Brown), with the Bears winning both of those series, and in the Quarterfinals in 1990 (at RPI), a series claimed by the Engineers. Brown's all-time record against RPI in the ECAC Hockey playoffs is 4-3-0.
