PROVIDENCE, RI - Freshman defenseman Brandon Pfeil (West Vancouver, British Columbia) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 30, 2012. Pfeil helped to lead the Bears to a third place finish at the UConn Hockey Classic, compiling a career-high four points (1g, 3a) in Brown's 7-2 win over AIC, while factoring into four of the Bears' seven goals.
After AIC had taken a 1-0 lead and Brown tied the game, Pfeil scored his first career goal, on the power-play, to give the Bears a 2-1 lead, a lead they never relinquished. Then, after the Yellow Jackets scored to come to within 3-2, Pfeil assisted on the second goal of the game for classmate Joe Prescott just 45 seconds later to give the Bears a 4-2 lead. He also had assists on Brown's sixth and seventh goals to become the first Brown player to record four points in a game since Jack Maclellan '12 last February. It was the first time a Brown defenseman tallied four points in a game since February 2007 when David Robertson '08 had 1-3-4 totals against Harvard.
Pfeil, who was +3 for the game and the weekend, has played in all 14 games and currently has six points (1g, 5a).
The Bears continue action on Wednesday evening when they host the Russian Red Stars in an exhibition game at 7:00 p.m. Brown's next ECAC Hockey contest is January 11th at Clarkson.
