18 Men’s Hockey Players Selected to 2012-13 ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team
18 men’s hockey players have been selected to the 2012-13 ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team and are among 216 student-athletes from across the League to earn recognition on this year’s squad. Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters. Freshmen were eligible for the team for the first time in 2006-2007 and remain eligible for the team.

Men's Hockey Recognizes Five with Team Awards
The Brown men’s hockey team held its annual season-ending banquet on Tuesday April 23 at the Faculty Club on the Brown campus. Five different individuals were honored with team awards, while members of the Class of 2013, the Class of 2015, and the Class of 2016 received their letter sweaters. The six seniors – Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY), Richie Crowley (Canton, MA), Francis Drolet (Lachine, QUE), Jeff Ryan (Media, PA), Marc Senecal (North Bay, ONT), and Chris Zaires (Aberdeen, NJ), along with manager Trevor Smyth ’13 (Calgary, ALB), were also recognized for their invaluable contributions to the Brown men’s hockey program throughout the past four years.

Lappin Named Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month
Brown freshman Nick Lappin (Geneva, IL) was named Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month for the month of March. As the League’s Rookie of the Month, Lappin is now eligible for the Hockey Commissioner’s Association National Rookie of the Month.

Men's Hockey Featured in New England Hockey Journal
Brendan Whittet might have thought rebuilding the Brown hockey program would be easy after his first season as head coach in 2009-10. That year, he took a team that logged a cumulative record of 27-77-22 in the four years prior to his hire to the ECAC Hockey tournament semifinals. Sure, the Bears backed into the tournament as the 11th seed, but they peaked at the right time, eventually winning the third-place game against St. Lawrence.

NCAA Men’s Hockey East Regional Set for This Weekend; Quinnipiac, Boston College, Union and Canisius to Play at Dunkin' Donuts Center
The bracket for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament was announced on Sunday night and the Dunkin’ Donuts Center will host the Tournament’s #1 overall seed, Quinnipiac (27-7-5), along with ECAC Champion, Union (21-12-5), Atlantic Hockey Champion, Canisius (19-18-5), and Boston College (22-11-4), which earned an At-Large selection.

Bear-ing Its All: Brown Has Something to Build on After Championship Game Loss
Brown made it to its first ECAC final since 1993 and gave eventual champion, Union, everything it could handle and then some. Despite going down 3-0, early in the second period the Bears continued to claw and fight. It cut into the lead, then had a big shot edge in the third period.

Bears Come up just Short in First ECAC Hockey Championship Appearance in 20 Years, Fall to #18 Union, 3-1
18th-ranked Union (21-12-5, 10-8-4) scored two goals in the opening period and eventually increased its lead to 3-0 to hand the Brown men’s hockey team (16-14-6, 7-9-6) a 3-1 loss in the Championship game of the 2013 ECAC Hockey Championship Saturday evening at Boardwalk Hall. Brown concludes its season with a winning record for the first time since 2004-05 when the Bears were 16-14-3, while also earning seven more wins than the 2011-12 campaign.

Bears Stun #1 Quinnipiac, 4-0, in Semi Finals to Advance to ECAC Hockey Championship for First Time since 1993
Senior Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) stopped 29 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season and sophomore leading scorer Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help lead the Brown men’s hockey team (16-13-6, 7-9-6) to a 4-0 win over #1 Quinnipiac (26-7-5, 17-2-3) in the semifinals of the ECAC Championship Friday afternoon at Boardwalk Hall.

Bears Face #1/#2 Quinnipiac in ECAC Hockey Semifinals, Friday at 4:00
The 7th-seeded Bears, coming off a Quarterfinal series win over second-seeded and 16th-ranked Rensselaer (3-1, 2-6, 4-3) face top-seeded and #1/#2-ranked Quinnipiac in the Semifinals. This marks the first time since 2010, and just the ninth time ever, that Brown has advanced to the League semifinals, while the Bears are in search of their first-ever Tournament Championship. It also marks the third straight year that Brown will face Quinnipiac in the ECAC Tournament after meeting the Bobcats in the First Round in both 2011 and 2012. The two teams also met in the 2008 First Round. All three of those series were played in Hamden.

Borelli and Lorito Named All-ECAC
Brown senior goalie Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) and sophomore Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario) have been named All-ECAC in a vote by the League’s 12 head coaches and announced at the ECAC Hockey Championship reception on Thursday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Lorito was named Second Team All-League, while Borelli was named Third Team All-League, as both earned All-ECAC honors for the first time in their respective careers.

Borelli Featured in East Side Monthly
Brute strength was once the hallmark of great hockey teams. Then dynamic skating and speed became all important. Now we’ve entered the age of the goalie, where having a stellar net minder is a basic requirement for success. Brown senior Anthony Borelli came out of nowhere his senior year to lead his team, almost by himself, into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs with home ice advantage. Across town at Providence College, freshman goalie Jon Gillies put up ludicrous numbers in February, helping Providence stay at the top of the Hockey East conference.

Having advanced to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals for the first time since 2010, the Brown men’s hockey team (15-13-6) is currently among teams receiving votes in both national polls. Brown earned 11 votes in this week’s USCHO weekly poll and earned a single vote in this week’s USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Tickets are on sale, beginning on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., through the Brown ticket office for the ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship, slated for this weekend at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Bears entered the Tournament as the seventh seed and have advanced to the Semi-Finals, for the first time since 2010, with wins over Clarkson (3-0 and 4-3) in the First Round and over #16 Rensselaer (3-1, 2-6 and 3-2) in the Quarterfinals.

#16 RPI Forces Deciding Game with 6-2 Win in Game Two
Second-seeded and 16th-ranked RPI (18-13-5, 12-7-3) got out to a 2-0 lead and then broke open a 2-2 tie with four unanswered goals to earn a 6-2 win over the seventh-seeded Brown men’s hockey team (14-13-6, 7-9-6) in game two of the best-of-three ECAC Quarterfinal series Saturday evening at Houston Field House. The win evened the series at one game apiece, as the teams will face each other Sunday night in a deciding game with the winner advancing to next weekend’s ECAC Hockey semifinals in Atlantic City.

Juola Helps Lift Brown to 3-1 Win over #16 Rensselaer in Quarterfinal Game One
With the game tied, 1-1, and time winding down in the third period, junior Michael Juola (Lake Forest, CA) scored his fourth goal of the year with 1:44 left in regulation, lifting the Brown men’s hockey team (14-12-6, 7-9-6) to a 3-1 win over #16 Rensselaer (17-13-5, 12-7-3) in game one of the best-of-three ECAC Quarterfinal series Friday evening at Houston Field House. Senior Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) was also instrumental in leading the seventh-seeded Bears to the win over the second-seeded Engineers, recording 26 saves, including nine over the final period, during which Brown was outshot, 9-5.

Bears Travel to Rensselaer to Face Engineers in Best-of-Three Quarterfinal Series
Brown travels to Rensselaer to face the Engineers in a best-of-three Quarterfinal series, advancing past the first round for the first time since 2010. Ironically, the Bears advanced to the Quarterfinals, and then subsequently the ECAC Final Four, with a First Round series win at RPI, besting the Engineers in three games.

Assistant Coach Mike Souza Featured in New England Hockey Journal
Mike Souza reached the end of the line in his playing career in 2011 after spending the majority of his life climbing the ladder to one of the highest levels of hockey in the world. The Wakefield, Mass., native had played on two Frozen Four teams at the University of New Hampshire before spending another 11 seasons playing professionally in the AHL, ECHL and Europe. Souza had rounded the corner into his 30s, and his perceived value on his Italian team, Bolzano, was that of a mentor to younger players, someone who could help just as much in practices as games.

Tickets on Sale Tuesday Morning for Brown’s Quarterfinal Playoff Series at Rensselaer
Seventh-seeded Brown and second-seeded Rensselaer are scheduled to meet in the Quarterfinal Round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament this weekend in Troy, New York. The puck drops on Friday night, March 15th, at 7:00 p.m. and continues with game two scheduled for Saturday night, March 16th, at 7:00 p.m. If the two teams split the first two games, the third and deciding game will be played on Sunday night, March 17th, at 7:00 p.m.

Bears to Face Rensselaer in ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals
After sweeping Clarkson in its First Round series this past weekend, the Brown men’s hockey team (13-12-6) will travel to Troy, New York to face #15 Rensselaer (17-12-5) in a best-of-three Quarterfinal series Friday, March 15, Saturday, March 16, and Sunday, March 17 (if necessary). Brown was 0-1-1 against RPI during the regular season, playing to a 3-3 tie at Meehan Auditorium in December, and falling to the Engineers, 5-1, at Houston Field House in mid-February.

Men's Hockey Opens Best-of-Three First Round Series Friday vs. Clarkson
Brown hosts Clarkson in a best-of-three First Round series, as the Bears will play a First Round series at home for the first time since 2005. Brown is playing in the First Round for the ninth straight season, as the Bears’ last top-four finish and subsequent bye came during the 2003-04 season. In those eight years, Brown advanced to the Quarterfinals three times, winning in 2005, 2009 and 2010.

Borelli, Lorito and Robertson Named First Team All-Ivy
Brown senior goalie Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY), junior captain Dennis Robertson (Fort St. John, British Columbia), and sophomore Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario) have been named First Team All-Ivy in a vote by the League’s six head coaches. It marks the third straight All-Ivy selection for Robertson, who earned Second Team honors in both 2011 and 2012, while both Borelli and Lorito are first-time honorees.

Men's Hockey Defeats Colgate, 5-1; Will Host ECAC Playoff Series for First Time Since 2005
Sophomore Matt Harlow (Bridgewater, MA) led four different Brown goal scorers as the men’s hockey team (11-12-6, 7-9-6) earned a 5-1 win over visiting Colgate (14-16-4, 6-13-3) on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. The two points were critical for the Bears, who took care of themselves to stay alive in the hunt for home ice and then got the help they needed in the 7:00 games.

Brown Hosts Cornell and Colgate in Final Regular Season Weekend with Home Ice on the Line
Brown hosts Cornell and Colgate in a pair of pivotal ECAC hockey contests to close out the regular season. The Bears can finish anywhere from 4th through 11th in the standings and control their own destiny for a first round playoff series at home. Brown sits alone in 8th place with 18 points and is one point ahead of Cornell and Princeton, currently tied for 9th with 17 points, and three points ahead of Colgate, currently in 11th place with 15 points. The Bears are also one point behind 7th-place Clarkson, two points behind 6th-place Union, three behind 4th-place Dartmouth and Yale, and four points behind 3rd-place St. Lawrence. Brown cannot finish in third place, however, as the Saints own the tiebreaker with the Bears, having earned three points during the regular season.

Cornell scored twice in the opening period and never looked back en route to a 4-1 win over the Brown men’s hockey team (10-12-6, 6-9-6) in a pivotal ECAC Hockey contest Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium. With the win, the Big Red (12-13-3, 8-10-3) leapt the Bears in the standings, pushing Brown into the 9-12 range and out of positioning for home ice for next weekend’s ECAC First Round.

Mark Naclerio Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Brown men’s hockey freshman Mark Naclerio (Milford, CT) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 24th. Naclerio was instrumental in helping to lead the Bears to a three-point weekend in which they defeated Princeton, 4-1, on Friday night and then rallied from a 3-1 deficit to earn a 3-3 tie at #1 Quinnipiac on Saturday. The three points helps Brown maintain positioning in the standings as it heads into the final two regular season games of the year, at home this weekend against Cornell and Colgate.

Ryan and Zaires Score in Final Two Minutes of Regulation as Men’s Hockey Comes Back for 3-3 Tie with #1 Quinnipiac
Trailing, 3-1, with under three minutes left in regulation, the Brown men’s hockey team (10-11-6, 6-8-6) scored twice in the final 2:16 of play, including the tying goal with 52 seconds remaining, to come back and earn a 3-3 tie with #1 Quinnipiac (23-4-5, 16-1-3) on Saturday evening at the TD Bank Sports Center. The tie marked the second time this season that Brown played the Bobcats, who have already clinched the ECAC Regular Season Championship, to a draw. The two teams tied, 1-1, in Providence on February 1st.

Brown will play at Princeton and #1 Quinnipiac in its final road trip of the 2012-13 regular season. The Bears enter the weekend still in the hunt for home ice for the playoffs and are just two points behind Princeton and Clarkson, who are tied for 7th place. Brown is also four points out of fifth place, where Dartmouth and Yale sit with 19 points. The Bears will also look to maintain positioning over Colgate and Cornell, currently tied for 10th place with 12 points, and 12th-place Harvard (10 points).

In a pivotal game for playoff positioning, the Brown men’s hockey team (10-11-5, 6-8-5) earned a big win over Princeton (9-13-4, 7-9-3) on Friday evening at Baker Rink. The two points move the Bears into a tie with the Tigers for 8th place and the final spot for home ice for the playoffs with three games remaining. Having swept the season series with Princeton, Brown also holds the tiebreaker over its Ivy foes.

Men's Hockey Travels to NY Capital District for Pair of Pivotal ECAC Hockey Games
Brown begins a four-game road trip this weekend with Friday night’s game at Rensselaer, marking the Bears’ third consecutive trip to the Empire State after trips to Clarkson-St. Lawrence and Colgate-Cornell during the month of January. Friday’s game at RPI will pit two of the nation’s top goalies, statistically speaking, against one another. Brown’s Anthony Borelli ’13 currently ranks 2nd in the nation in both GAA and save %, while RPI’s Jason Kasdorf is 5th in GAA and 6th in save%. The Bears will look to climb the ECAC Hockey standings, as they currently sit in 8th place (tied with Clarkson) with 15 points.

Special Teams the Difference as RPI Defeats Men’s Hockey, 5-1
RPI (13-11-5, 8-6-3) went three-for-five on the man-advantage and held the Bears off the board until the game was already decided, skating to a 5-1 victory over the Brown men’s hockey team (9-10-5, 5-7-5) on Friday evening at Houston Field House. Special teams proved to be the difference, as the Engineers scored back-to-back goals on two separate power play chances in a span of 2:03 to turn a 3-0 lead into a 5-0 lead early in the third period.

Borelli Records Career-High 44 Saves to Lead Brown to 1-0 Shutout over #9 Yale
Senior Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) stopped a career-high 44 shots, including 17 in the second period, in helping to lead the Brown men’s hockey team (9-9-5, 5-6-5) to a 1-0 shutout over #9 Yale (13-7-3, 9-5-1) on Tuesday evening at Meehan Auditorium. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday night and then moved to Sunday due to this weekend’s blizzard, before eventually getting moved to tonight.

Men's Hockey to Host Yale on Tuesday Night; Faculty Staff Night and Student Appreciation Night
Brown will close out a three-game homestand with a single game against its travel partner, ninth-ranked Yale, on Sunday evening at 5:00. Originally scheduled for Saturday night at 7:00, the game was moved to Sunday evening in anticipation of this weekend's impending Blizzard. The game is the final home contest during the month of February, as the Bears won’t return home until the final weekend of the regular season, March 1st and 2nd against Cornell and Colgate.

Brown senior goalie Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, New York) has been named one of 16 semi-finalists, representing 12 teams, for the 61st Walter Brown Award, presented annually by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston to the best American-born college player in New England. One of three goalies to be named a semi-finalist, Borelli is also one of seven players from ECAC Hockey to be recognized.

Coming off its fourth weekend split in a row, after falling to Colgate (2-1) and defeating #18 Cornell (3-0), the Bears return home this weekend to host #2 Quinnipiac and Princeton, opening a three-game homestand, which will also feature a game against Yale next Saturday. Quinnipiac and Princeton are the only remaining ECAC Hockey opponents that Brown has yet to face in a League game this season, as the Bears will have played all 11 League opponents at least once following this weekend.

Senior Anthony Borelli (Grand Island, NY) made a career-high 38 saves and helped to lead the Brown men’s hockey team (7-9-5, 3-6-5) to a 1-1 tie with #2 Quinnipiac (18-3-4, 11-0-2) on Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium. Freshman Brandon Pfeil (West Vancouver, British Columbia) scored for the Bears, who joined RPI as the only ECAC Hockey team to earn a point against the Bobcats this season.

Sophomore Matt Harlow (Bridgewater, MA) scored midway through the period as the Brown men’s hockey team (6-9-4, 2-6-4) attempted to come back from a two-goal deficit, but it wasn’t enough, as Colgate (6-10-1, 4-8-0) held on for a 2-1 victory in an ECAC Hockey contest Friday evening at Starr Rink. The result is the fifth one-goal loss of the season for the Bears, all of which have come in ECAC Hockey play.

Bears Travel to Colgate and #18 Cornell
Coming off its third weekend split in a row after falling to #11 Dartmouth (4-2) and defeating Harvard (5-2), the Bears make their second of three straight trips to New York this weekend to face Colgate and #18 Cornell, as the teams face off against each other for the first time this season. The Raiders and Big Red are two of four ECAC Hockey opponents who the Bears have yet to face this year, as Brown hosts Quinnipiac and Princeton in the first League games against that duo next weekend. Brown in the midst of a stretch of 15 straight ECAC Hockey contests and will look to climb in the League standings, as the Bears enter the weekend tied with Clarkson for 8th place (8 points), one point behind 7th-place Rensselaer and two points behind 6th-place Cornell. On the flip side, the Bears are also just two points ahead of last-place Harvard, which enters the weekend with six points.

Three former Brown hockey standouts were among 19 former Ivy Leaguers and 28 ECAC Hockey alumni to appear on NHL Opening Day rosters. Coming off a weekend split at Clarkson (W, 3-2) and St. Lawrence (L, 3-2), the Bears host #11 Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend in their only home contests during the month of January. Brown is in the midst of a stretch of 15 straight ECAC Hockey contests and will look to climb in the League standings. The Bears enter the weekend tied with Harvard and St. Lawrence for ninth place with six points. The trio is just one point behind seventh-place Colgate and Clarkson and two behind sixth-place Cornell.

Sophomore leading scorer Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario) scored a pair of goals, his 11th and 12th of the season, and helped the Bears battle back from a 1-0 deficit, but St. Lawrence (9-10-2, 2-5-2) answered with two goals in a span of 6:37 to earn a 3-2 win over the Brown men’s hockey team (5-7-4, 1-4-4) on Saturday evening at Appleton Arena. All four of the Bears’ ECAC Hockey losses have come by a single goal.

Men's Hockey Begins 15-Game League Stretch at Clarkson and St. Lawrence
After completing the non-league portion of their schedule (4-3-0) with a 7-2 win over AIC at the UConn Hockey Classic, the Bears enjoyed a rare weekend off last Friday and Saturday heading into this weekend’s games at Clarkson and St. Lawrence. With the majority of the ECAC Hockey schedule remaining, Bown begins its final stretch of League games, 15 straight, on Friday night against the Golden Knights, before facing the Saints on Saturday, as the Bears will close out the regular season series against the North Country duo. Friday’s game at Clarkson is Brown’s first ECAC Hockey contest since posting a 2-2 tie with RPI on December 8th.

Pfeil helped to lead the Bears to a third place finish at the UConn Hockey Classic, compiling a career-high four points (1g, 3a) in Brown's 7-2 win over AIC, while factoring into four of the Bears' seven goals.

Bears Erupt for Season High Seven Goals in 7-2 Win over AIC; Prescott Scores Twice, while Pfeil Notches a Goal and Three Assists
Led by a pair of goals from freshman Joe Prescott (Norwell, MA) and four points (1g, 3a) from freshman Brandon Pfeil (West Vancouver, British Columbia), the Brown men’s hockey team (4-6-4) erupted for a 7-2 win over AIC (4-10-3) in the Third Place game of the 20th Annual UConn Hockey Classic. In all, 13 different players tallied at least one point, as Brown closed out the non-league portion of its schedule with a 4-3-0 record. Sophomore Matt Harlow (Bridgewater, MA) finished with three assists, while sophomore Massimo Lamacchia (Maple, Ontario) and freshman Nick Lappin (Geneva, IL) both contributed a goal and an assist.

Men's Hockey Returns to Action Saturday against Minnesota State after Three-Week Hiatus
After taking three weeks off for final exams and the holiday break, Brown returns to action with its final two non-league games of the season at the UConn Hockey Classic. Brown will face Minnesota State in the first game on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. and then will meet either AIC or UConn in Sunday’s action. This marks the third time that Brown is playing in the UConn Hockey Classic. In December of 2007, Brown fell to Ferris State, 2-1, in the opening round before tying Army, 1-1 (ot), in the Third Place game. In December of 2004, the Bears won the Classic title, defeating Merrimack, 4-1, in the opening round and beating Holy Cross, 5-2, in the Championship game.

After falling behind, 2-0, to #18 Minnesota State (11-6-2), freshman Mark Naclerio (Milford, CT) brought the Brown men’s hockey team (3-6-4) to within a goal late in the game, but the Bears’ come-back attempt came up just short as the Mavericks tacked on an empty net goal with four seconds remaining to earn a 3-1 win in First Round action of the 2012 UConn Hockey Classic.

For the fourth time this season, the Brown men’s hockey team (3-5-4, 0-3-4) played to an overtime draw in ECAC Hockey action, coming back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to earn a 2-2 tie with Rensselaer (4-6-4, 1-5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. All four of the ties have come in games played at Meehan, as the Bears are undefeated at 0-0-4 in home ECAC Hockey contests.

After playing five straight home games, the Bears hit the road for the first time in a month when they travel to New Haven on Saturday to face Yale in a 7:00 p.m. ECAC Hockey contest, Brown’s first game away from Meehan Auditorium since November 3rd. The game is also the Bears’ first ECAC Hockey action since hosting Clarkson on November 10th, as they have played three consecutive non-league games entering Saturday’s match-up.

Despite outshooting Holy Cross (7-3-1), 15-6, during the opening period, the Brown men’s hockey team (3-4-2) trailed, 2-0, heading into the middle stanza. However, sparked by two second-period goals from the line of junior Garnet Hathaway (Kennebunkport, ME) and sophomores Ryan Jacobson (Greenwood Village, CO) and Matt Lorito (Oakville, Ontario), the Bears clawed back into the game and eventually won on freshman Mark Naclerio’s (Milford, CT) first career goal with less than eight minutes to play.

In the midst of a three-game non-league stretch, Brown will close out its five-game homestand by hosting Providence and Holy Cross, two teams receiving votes in this week’s USCHO poll, in a pair of 4:00 games Saturday and Sunday. In Saturday’s contest against the Friars, the Bears look to defend the Mayor’s Cup trophy, as the teams will play in the 27th annual battle for City bragging rights. After playing four straight ECAC Hockey contests, the Bears take a break from League play to host three consecutive non-league games. Any veteran who purchases a ticket for the Bears’ football game against Columbia will receive free admission to the contest. The Brown men’s hockey team will open its 2012-2013 season at home on Friday evening when it takes on the Princeton Tigers in the sixth annual Ivy Showcase tournament, the second to be contested at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears' season debut will be preceded by a match-up between the Dartmouth Big Green and the Yale Bulldogs, as these four teams will battle for the Tournament Title over the course of the two-day event. The winners of Friday night’s contests will go head-to-head on Saturday, and, win or loose, Brown will compete in its second game of the season at 7:00pm.

He started playing hockey at age 6, often skating outdoors in the remote mountain town where he grew up. He left home as a teenager to play in Montreal, then moved on to Kent, the Connecticut prep school. Now he is in the Ivy League.

Following its first day of official practices, the Brown men’s hockey team played its annual Brown vs. White scrimmage on Saturday morning, October 13th. The White team edged the Brown team, 2-1, in overtime, as 25 of the 29 players on the roster saw action in the game.

Whittet Announces 2012-13 Men's Hockey Schedule
Brown men's hockey head coach Brendan Whittet has announced the Bears 2012-13 schedule, which features 16 home games in addition to an exhibition contest against the Russian Red Stars in early January. The Bears will play five non-league home games in addition to the 11 contests against ECAC Hockey opponents, as more than half of their 29 regular season games will be played at Meehan this season. Brown is home for nine of its first 12 games and the 2012-13 schedule also features seven home contests (Clarkson, Providence, Holy Cross, RPI, Harvard, Yale, and Colgate) with a fan-friendly 4:00 p.m. start time.

Aaron Volpatti ’10 Re-Signs with Vancouver
Former Brown men’s hockey standout Aaron Volpatti ’10 has re-signed a one-year two-way contract with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, announced by President and General Manager, Mike Gillis. A native of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Volpatti originally signed with Vancouver as a free agent on March 22, 2010.

Head men’s hockey coach Brendan Whittet ’94 has announced his third recruiting class as the Bears’ head coach. This talented group of five players (three forwards and two defensemen) is set to join the Bears this fall as part of the Class of 2016. They represent three different states and one province. Illinois (two players) leads the way, while British Columbia, Connecticut and Massachusetts are also represented in this year’s class.
