Farnham Receives New England Hockey Writers Joe Tomasello Award

PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown senior assistant captain Bobby Farnham (North Andover, MA) has been named the 2012 recipient of the Joe Tomasello Award. Presented annually by the New England Hockey Writers Association, the award goes to the Unsung Hero in New England. Earlier this week at the Frozen Four, Farnham was also named the recipient of the 2012 HCA Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award.

Farnham finished his senior season tied for second on the team in scoring, posting career-highs for goals (8), assists (13), and points (21). He also had three power play goals and one short-handed goal, while earning 7-5-12 totals in ECAC Hockey contests. In 129 career games, a mark that ranks second all-time at Brown, Farnham finished with 54 points (23g, 31a). He signed an ATO with the Providence Bruins at the conclusion of the season and played in three games.

The 5-foot-10 180-pound forward has been heavily involved in the community around campus. Farnham has assisted in being an "Ambassador to Team Impact," a non-profit group whose mission is to connect and cultivate meaningful relationships between athletic teams and children facing life-threatening diseases. He also served as the Athletic Co-Chair on the Senior Gift Committee, supervising representatives from Brown's 37 athletic teams to raise money for its annual fund. Farnham was the teams' contact and coordinator for the Brown football team's Bench Press for Cancer and Goals for Good program, as well as an elementary school volunteer helping with reading, writing, history, and art projects.

Farnham, a Commerce, Organizations, & Entrepreneurship major, owns a 3.65 overall GPA in the classroom. Perhaps his most memorable act came outside of the classroom in the summer of 2011 as Farnham and five teammates were swimming at a local Rhode Island beach when they saved three teenagers who were struggling in a rip tide. Farnham and his teammates swam against the rip tide to save the immobile and unresponsive group and bring them back to the beach area.
