Whittet Announces 2011-12 Schedule

Complete schedule available here.

Brown men's hockey head coach Brendan Whittet has announced the Bears 2011-12 schedule, which features a challenging non-league portion in addition to the 22 games against ECAC Hockey opponents. The Bears renew old rivalries with Army and Holy Cross this year and also face several familiar non-league opponents.

After opening the season in late October with the annual Ivy Showcase, hosted by Dartmouth this year, Brown returns home and jumps right into ECAC Hockey action with a weekend series against Colgate and Cornell (November 4-5). After a trip to New York's capital district to face 2011 NCAA Tournament participants Union and Rensselaer, Brown takes a break from League action with three straight non-league games.

The team will travel to West Point, NY the weekend of November 19th to face Army, a team Brown has not faced since the Black Knights left the ECAC. The Bears return home to host AIC on Tuesday, November 22nd in their only home non-league game of the year, and then travel to Holy Cross the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

In what is becoming a fierce rivalry of the Bears, Brown will face its travel partner, Yale, in a home-and-home series the first weekend of December. The two teams face off in New Haven on Thursday, December 1st, and then meet up in Providence on Saturday, December 3rd.

The Yale game is the final contest of the first semester, as the Bears won't return to the ice again until Friday, December 30th, when they travel to New Hampshire for a 7:00 p.m. game. It is the first of two straight against Hockey East opponents, as the team returns to Rhode Island and travels across town on New Year's Day (4:00 p.m.) to face Providence College in the 26th annual battle for the Mayor's Cup and city bragging rights.

Having played only six ECAC contests in the first part of the season, Brown will get into the thick of the League schedule following the PC game, which is the final non-league contest of the year for the Bears.

Brown begins the stretch run at home the weekend of January 6-7 against Princeton and Quinnipiac and will alternate home and away weekends straight through until February 24th and 25th when they travel to Quinnipiac and Princeton. Home weekends during this time include Rensselaer and Union on January 20th and 21st, Clarkson and St. Lawrence on February 3rd and 4th, and Harvard and Dartmouth on February 17th and 18th.
