PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown junior Jack Maclellan (Calgary, ALB) has been named Captain for the 2011-2012 men's hockey team in an announcement made by head coach Brendan Whittet. Maclellan will be joined in leading the team by classmate Bobby Farnham (North Andover, MA), who has been named an Assistant Captain for the upcoming season. Both Maclellan and Farnham are two-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Squad honorees and are expected to earn the recognition for the third straight season this year.
"Jack and Bobby are both the epitome of a Brown hockey player," said Whittet. "Jack is a supremely talented athlete who possesses those innate character traits that will allow him to be a tremendous leader for Brown Hockey. He plays with a ferocious intensity and a burning desire to represent our program and our University to the best of his ability. Jack is a proven winner and I am proud to have him as our 2011-2012 Captain.
"Bobby plays the game hard and with incredible desire. He represents Brown Hockey with an indomitable spirit and he will be a great Assistant Captain for our hockey program."
"It's a huge honor to be named captain for next season," said Maclellan, who served as an assistant captain in 2010-11. "I am excited about the challenge of helping to lead our team to a championship, and I hope to honor the history and tradition of Brown Hockey and to make everyone involved with our program proud."
Maclellan, a Second Team All-ECAC honoree in 2011, is coming off a junior season in which he led the Bears in scoring for the majority of the year until suffering a season-ending injury on February 18th at Princeton. Despite missing six games, Maclellan finished the year tied for first on the team with 31 points, while leading the squad with 17 assists. Maclellan ranked near the top of the ECAC in scoring throughout the majority of the season, earning national attention as a nominee for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award. In 25 games, Maclellan also posted three power play goals, two short-handed goals, and one game-winning goal. In ECAC Hockey games only, Maclellan finished the year ranked 18th in points (17), 15th in goals (8) and 29th in assists (9). Overall, Maclellan ranked 18th in points (31), 15th in goals (14), and 22nd in assists (17). His 1.22 points per game ranked 22nd nationally. He will enter his final season with 71 career points (31g, 40a) in 91 career games.
Farnham played in all 31 games last year, skating on several lines, while posting career-highs for points (15) and goals (8), including 6-3-9 numbers in ECAC Hockey contests. A valued member of the front line for the past three seasons, Farnham plays a key role in the Bears' penalty kill, having scored a pair of short-handed goals during his career. Having missed just three games during his career, Farnham enters his final season with 98 career games and 33 points (15g, 18a).
