PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown sophomore leading scorer Jack Maclellan (Calgary, ALB) has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending March 15. Maclellan was instrumental in helping lead the Bears past top-seeded and sixth-ranked Yale in the best-of three Quarterfinal series, as Brown advanced to the ECAC semifinals for the first time since 2003. Maclellan had four points in the three games, scoring two goals and assisting two others, while finishing +2 for the weekend. He was also Brown’s top player in the faceoff circle, winning 36 of 61 in the three games.
On Friday night, in Brown’s 3-2 game-one win, Maclellan assisted the Bears’ first goal, helping Brown get off to a 1-0 lead seven seconds into the second period. He also led Brown with a .520 faceoff winning percentage that night. On Saturday night, and with Yale leading, 4-0, Maclellan got the Bears on the board with a short-handed goal 2:58 into the second period. He also earned an assist on Brown’s second goal of the night, scored at 13:52 of the third, while leading the team with a .600 faceoff winning percentage. In the deciding game, Maclellan scored his second short-handed goal in as many nights, 9:21 into the first period in Brown’s 1-0 win. He also won 11 of 16 faceoffs for a .688 winning percentage.
Maclellan and the rest of the Bears will face second-seeded and seventh-ranked Cornell in the ECAC semifinals on Friday afternoon at 4:00. The winner of the semifinal game, which will air live on the NHL Network, will advance to play either Union or St. Lawrence in Saturday’s Championship game.
