Clemente and Volpatti earn ECAC Hockey Weekly Honors after First Round Series Win

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown senior Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) and sophomore Mike Clemente (Great Falls, VA) have been named ECAC Hockey Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending March 7. The duo was instrumental in helping lead the Bears past RPI in their best-of-three First Round series, as the Bears advanced to the Quarterfinals for the second straight year.  For Volpatti, this marks the first time in his career that he has been recognized with a weekly award, while Clemente has earned the honor for the second time this season.

Volpatti was Brown's best player over the weekend, scoring one goal in each of the Bears' three games and assisting two others. On Friday night, a 3-1 win, Volpatti assisted the game-winning goal, which came 1:13 after Brown had come back to tie the score at 1-1 early in the third period. He clinched the win with an empty net goal, with 1:05 remaining. In game two, Volpatti scored Brown's only goal of the game, tying the score at 1-1 late in the first period. In game three, Volpatti gave Brown an early 1-0 lead, scoring his team-leading 14th goal of the year at the 7:05 mark. He also added an assist on the Bears' second goal of the night, which gave Brown a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute of play during the second period. The third leading scorer on the team this year, Volpatti enters the Quarterfinal series at Yale with 7 points (4g, 3a) in each of the Bears last four games. With 28 points (14g, 14a) on the season, Volpatti is just two points shy of matching his total (15-15-30) from the past three seasons.

In the three games this weekend, Clemente posted a 2.33 GAA and a .921 save percentage, stopping 82 of 89 shots. In Brown's two wins, Clemente was even stronger, earning a 1.50 GAA and a .945 save percentage, while allowing three goals on 52 shots. Clemente was particularly strong in both wins late in the game, as RPI attempted a third-period comeback both nights. On Sunday night, Clemente made 28 saves, 12 of which came during the final 20 minutes of play, as RPI outshot Brown, 14-5, for the period and mounted an intense comeback attempt.

Volpatti, Clemente, and the rest of the Bears will travel to sixth-ranked Yale, the top seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, for this weekend's Quarterfinal series. Games one and two are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, both at 7:00 p.m., with game three, if necessary, slated for Sunday, March 14th, at 7:00 p.m.
