PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University men's hockey forward Chris Zaires (Aberdeen, NJ) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 22. A wing, Zaires had four points in the Bears' two games this week, scoring two goals and assisting two others.
On Tuesday night against Providence, Zaires had a hand in the Bears' final two goals of the game as Brown fought back from a 4-1 deficit to come to within 4-3 in the game's final minutes. His first career goal at 8:38 of the third brought Brown to within 4-2. Then, with 1:11 left and with the Bears' net vacated, he had the only assist on Brown's third goal. On Saturday night against Yale, Zaires had another two-point game with another goal and assist. After Yale had taken a 4-1 first-period lead, Zaires scored his first career power play goal to bring Brown to within 4-2 midway through the second. Then, after Yale went up, 5-2, Zaires has the primary assist on the game-tying goal, helping Harry Zolnierczyk finish a perfectly executed give-and-go to tie the game at 5-5 and force overtime.
For the season, Zaires has played in six games, missing one due to illness. He currently leads all Brown freshmen with five points (2g, 3a) and ranks third overall on the team in scoring.
Brown returns to action tomorrow night, Tuesday November 24,
when it hosts Bentley in a 7:00 p.m. non-league game.
