Mike Amato's Even-Par 72 Leads Field After Day One of New England Championship

Brewster, Mass. - Brown sophomore Michael Amato carded an even par 72 to tie for first place individually at the 74th Annual New England Golf Association Championship played at the par-72 Captains Course on Cape Cod. Amato's 72 helped the Bears to ninth place in the 44 team field with a team score of 318 after day one of competition. Sacred Heart leads the tournament by nine shots with a first-day 302.

Amato shot 35, 37 to tie for first place along with Sacred Heart's Pat Fillian, who recorded identical nine-hole scores.

Bears' junior John Giannuzzi, who has been Brown's top scorer throughout the fall season, came in at 81 on nines of 41, 40. Senior co-captain Chris Hoffman also shot 81 for the Bears, carding nine hole scores of 39, 42.

Conor Malloy, a senior co-captain carded 84 in the first round, while senior Joe Rued came in at 91.

The final round of play at the NEIGA Championship will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.
