Bears Place 6th At 71st Annual New England Championship

Brewster, Mass. - Competing in one of the oldest collegiate golf tournaments in the nation, the Brown golf team placed sixth overall in the 45-team New England Championship held at the Captain's Course in Brewster, Mass. Brown finished with a two- day total of 614 (302, 312), behind URI (592), Dartmouth (601), UConn (605), Central Conn. (611), Husson (612), and ahead of Post (625), Salem State (626), Fairfield (626) and Harvard (627) among the top 11 schools.

Sophomore Larry Haertel was the top Brown scorer, finishing 13th individually with a two-day 151 (76, 75). Close behind was senior captain Donny Mowlds, who placed 17th with a two-day 152 (76, 76), and senior Danny Wallis, who shot 72-82-154 to place 26th.

Junior Lanny Benson came in with 78-79-157 to finish 42nd in the field of 226 players, while freshman Chris Hoffman finished with a two-day 164 (81, 83).
