New Haven, CT – Following its spring trip to Arizona, the Brown men's golf team returned north to earn a fifth place finish at the Yale Spring Opener played on the par-70, 6,749 yard Yale Golf Course. Bears' junior captain JD Ardell turned in a strong performance with a 36-hole 152.
The tournament championship was picked-up by Tennessee, who dominated the field with a two-round 574, winning by 17 shots over second place Dartmouth (591). Seton Hall placed third (602), followed by Yale (618), Brown (623), Lafayette (625), Temple (626), St. Peter's (627), Colgate (631), Yale II (641), Manhattan (647), and Niagara (685).
Ardell placed 14th individually on rounds of 73-79. His first round 73 was the sixth top score overall after round one. Freshman Justin Miller came in at 75-80—155 to finish 21st individually.
Sophomore Nelson Hargrove, making his first collegiate appearance, was Brown's third leading scorer on rounds of 79-80—159. Sophomore Kyohei Itamura also shot 159 (80-79), while sophomore Peter Callas scored 78-82—160.
Coach Mike Hughes and the Brown golf team will travel to Princeton, New Jersey next weekend, April 14-15, to compete in the Princeton Invitational.
