Bloomington, Indiana - Brown head golf coach Mike Hughes has to be pleased with the improvement of his men’s golf team during three rounds at the adidas Hoosier Classic. The Bears shot an impressive 302 on the final day of play to improve to 15th place in the 19-team tournament played at the par 71, 6,813 yard Indiana University Golf Course.
Indiana captured the team title by 36 shots with a 54-hole 838, followed by Ball State (874), George Washington (880), DePaul (881), Detroit-Mercy (882), eastern Kentucky (885), Evansville (888), Ohio U. (888), Youngstown St. (891), Cleveland St. (899), Indiana B (904), Butler (905), Oakland (911), St. Bonaventure (916), Brown (926), IPFW (934), Valparaiso (941), IUPUI (942) and Canisius (953).
Senior captain John Giannuzzi really stepped up for the Bears, finishing 47th individually with a 54-hole 228 on rounds of 77, 76 and 75. Freshman Jack Mylott opened with 78-80 on day one and came back with Brown’s top score of the tournament, 74, to finish at 232, 59th individually.
Freshman Chris Williams, who earned a win over Arizona State last week, shot 78-79-76—233 to place 63rd individually, while senior Michael Amato was solid throughout on rounds of 82-76-77—239. Freshman JD Ardell also scored for the Bears on rounds of 83-79-80—240.
Having completed their Spring trip tat started in Arizona, Brown returns to Providence next weekend to play in the New England Division I Championship, April 10-11, at the Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence, Rhode Island.
