Oct. 27, 2003
Providence, RI -
Brown University freshman linebacker Zak DeOssie (North Andover, MA) has been named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for his outstanding play in Saturday's 21-7 win over Cornell.
DeOssie is quickly becoming a major player for the Bears defense. He registered five solo tackles against the Big Red, and had a quarterback sack for a loss of nine yards.
Two weeks ago against Princeton, DeOssie registered five tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss of five yards. He also deflected a pass at the line of scrimmage that was actually caught by Princeton quarterback Matt Verbit for a loss of nine yards.
DeOssie, who came to Brown from Philips Academy in Andover, Mass., ranks tenth on this year's team in tackles with 17.
