Providence, RI - Brown will be launching its 131st season of intercollegiate football on Saturday, September 20 against Stony Brook in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. at Brown Stadium.
The Bears (0-0) are coming off a second place finish in the Ivy standings with a 4-3 league mark, 5-5 overall. Stony Brook (1-2) opened its 2008 season on August 30th against Colgate and will be playing their fourth game of the season. The Seawolves have beaten Colgate (42-26), and lost to #19 Elon (30-20) and Maine (28-13).
The Bears return eight of their 15 All-Ivy players from a year ago, including first team wide receiver Buddy Farnham `10, second team quarterback Michael Dougherty `09, second team defensive end James Develin `10, second team tackle Paul Jasinowski `10, second team wide receiver Bobby Sewall `10, second team tight end Colin Cloherty `09, and honorable mention All-Ivy selections defensive back Darrell Harrison `09, and outside linebacker Jon May `09.
If you can't make it to the game, Brown fans have several options. Brown's 10-game football schedule will be aired throughout Rhode Island and Southern New England on WPRV-AM 790 (Providence). The Brown football broadcast team features Scott Cordischi calling the play-by-play, and former Brown All-Ivy fullback Mike Wall '99 providing the color commentary.
Brown Football fans can also watch a live video and audio feed (WPRV - AM 790) of all home games through B2 Networks. All five home football games will be aired through Brown's athletic website http://brownbears.com. Fans wanting to watch Brown events via B2 Networks will need a high-speed Internet connection and a current version of Windows Media Player. Games will be sold on an individual basis at $7 per game or $30 for the season.
