Michael Malan Signs With The St. Louis Rams

April 26, 2002

Brown senior runningback Michael Malan (St. Louis, MO), the Bears all-time career rushing leader, has signed an NFL free agent contract with his hometown St. Louis Rams.

An honorable mention All-American last year, Malan is a two-time first team All-Ivy selection for the Bears. He finished his Brown career as the most prolific runner in Brown football history, rushing for a school record 3,266 yards, shattering the previous mark of 3,098 yards by Marquis Jesse from 1993-1996. He holds the school record for rushing in a season with 1,213 yards in 2000, and became the first Brown player to run for 1,000 yards in consecutive years, rushing for 1,059 yards last year.

Malan, who also earned All-New England honors in 2001, ran for a 100 or more yards 17 times in his Brown career, including a Brown record 267 yards against Fordham in 2001.

A punishing runner with a 5-11, 235 pound frame, Malan also made an impact on the Ivy League record book. His 3,266 career rushing yards are fifth best in Ivy League history, while his 39 career touchdowns rank fourth best in the Ivy record book. In 2001, Malan also tied the Brown mark for touchdowns in a season with 15, seventh best in Ivy League history. His 252 career points rank fourth best in Ivy League football history.
