Providence, Rhode Island - Coming off its second Ivy League Championship in the last four years, Brown Head Football coach Phil Estes will take the initial steps to prepare his 2009 squad for a run at another Ivy League Championship with the kick-off of Spring Practice. The Bears will take to the practice field for 12 days of Spring Football on Friday, April 3, and will culminate with the Annual Brown vs. White Spring Game on Saturday, April 25 at Brown Stadium, beginning at 12:00 noon.
Estes is optimistic that his team will challenge for the Ivy title once again with the return of 10 starters that includes six All-Ivy players, including four first team All-Ivy selections. Estes, a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award as the nation's top coach in 2008, has guided the Bears to three Ivy League titles in the last 10 years.
Three of Brown's first team All-Ivy selections return to the offensive side of the ball, with senior wide receivers Buddy Farnham (Andover, MA) and Bobby Sewall (Portsmouth, RI) back in the fold, along with senior offensive tackle Paul Jasinowski (Washington, DC).
Brown's defense also returns three All-Ivy players, senior defensive tackle David Howard (Columbia, MD), a first team selection, and second team All-Ivy honorees, senior defensive end James Develin (Gilbertsville, PA), and senior safety Chris Perkins (Bridgeton, MO).
All practices are open to the public and will be held at the Berylson Family Fields at the Erickson Athletic Complex. All dates and times are subject to change.
The Bears will kick-off their 2009 season on September 19 at Stony Brook.
