Providence, R.I. - Brown senior defensive end Richard "Dewey" Jarvis (Watertown, MA) and junior inside linebacker Isaiah Thompkins (Middletown, CT) have been elected co-captains of the 2017 Bears' football team in an announcement made by head coach Phil Estes.
"Dewey and Isaiah are two very hard-working, focused and complete football players on the field, in the community and in the classroom," said Estes. "Dewey is studying to be a doctor and Isaiah will pursue a career in business. Both will be outstanding leaders."
Jarvis is one of the premier Ivy League defensive players returning to the lineup. Last year, he led the Ivy League and ranked ninth nationally in tackles for a loss with 18.5, and ranked 24th nationally in forced fumbles (3). He has started 20 straight games for the Bears and has 101 career tackles. A Biology concentrator, Jarvis made 65 total tackles, including 40 solo stops in 2016.
Thompkins had a breakout season in 2016, registering 34 overall tackles, including four for a loss. The Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations concentrator also intercepted a pass against Cornell in 2016, and has played in 18 career games for the Bears.
The Bears open their season on Saturday, September 16 against Bryant at Brown Stadium. Kick-off is 12:30pm.
