Providence, R.I. - Brown senior linebacker Dan Giovacchini (Acton, MA) and senior wide receiver Stian Romberg (Maryville, TN) have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Football First Team as selected by CoSIDA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
An honorable mention All-Ivy inside linebacker, Giovacchini is a three-year starter for the Bears and started 36 career games. Giovacchini made six tackles vs. Princeton, and had four solo tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble in Brown's win over URI. A National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete award nominee and Business Entrepreneurship and Organizations concentrator at Brown, he led the defensive unit with 66 total tackles a year ago, making 43 solo hits and assisting on 23 tackles.
Romberg has emerged as one of Brown's top wide receivers this season with 16 receptions for 196 yards, averaging 12.2 yards per reception. A Mechanical Engineering concentrator at Brown, he had a team high five receptions vs. Georgetown, and made four catches for 38 yards vs. URI, including a key seven-yard TD reception.
The Bears are back in action again tomorrow, Saturday, November 8, hosting Yale at Brown Stadium. Fox College Sports is televising the game live, starting at 12:30 pm.
