Providence, R.I. – In preparation for Brown's 137th season of intercollegiate football head coach Phil Estes, now in his 18th season as the Bears' head coach, will welcome 109 players to the opening of Preseason Camp with a goal of winning Brown's fifth Ivy League title. The Bears will undergo physical testing on Friday, August 22 and hold their first official practice on Saturday, August 23 with a split session, beginning at 1pm.
Despite the graduation of 11 starters on offense and several more on defense, Estes is optimistic about the upcoming season. "While we might not have a lot of starters returning, we have many players with game experience," said Estes. " We truly believe in our system and always have players ready to step up to the challenge."
All practice sessions will take place at Berylson Family Fields at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Bears practice daily through Tuesday, September 2, with classes beginning on Wednesday, September 3. Brown's traditional weekday afternoon practice schedule will start with the opening of classes. In addition, Brown will travel to New Haven, Connecticut for a closed scrimmage against Yale.
Brown kicks-off its season in the nation's capital on Saturday, September 20, traveling to Washington, DC to battle Georgetown with a 12 noon kick-off.
All of Brown's home games (except those blacked out by national TV) and its Ivy League away games can be viewed on the Ivy League Digital Network, a nine-channel digital network that includes an easy-to-navigate interface, a League-wide network schedule and interactive features, such as simultaneous four-game viewing, full DVR controls and social media integration.
