Defense Dominates In Brown’s Annual Spring Football Game
Providence, RI - Defense dominated the annual Brown football's annual Brown-White Spring Game, with the Brown Team taking a 16-0 victory over the White Team behind interception returns for a touchdown by Adam Pelzer '13 and Matthew Billeci '14.
The Brown Team, coached by Joe Leslie, opened the scoring when Pelzer picked off a pass and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter for a 6-0 advantage. Henry Baker '15 booted a 23-yard field goal with 40 seconds left in the quarter to put the Brown Team ahead, 9-0.
Billeci gave the Brown Team a 16-0 advantage when he intercepted a pass and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown with 7:02 left in the second quarter.
The second half had several goal-line stands by the Brown Team defense, keeping the White team off the scoreboard.
Billeci, Pelzer and Anthony Franciosi '13 each registered six tackles and an interception for the Brown Team. Courtlandt Clavette '15 also registered an interception.
The White Team was led by Brad Herzlich '14, who made eight tackles, and Caleb Cragle '15, who had five tackles, including one for a loss.
The Bears will open the 2012 season on the road against Holy Cross on September 15, and host Harvard at Brown Stadium on September 22, in a game expected to be played under the lights.
