Providence, RI – Coach Phil Estes' Brown football team will place the finishing touches on 11 days of spring football practice with the Annual Brown vs. White Spring Football Game on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Berylson Family Field. The game is free and open to the public, and all the action starts at 11:00 a.m.
There is expected to be a special announcement made at the game about Brown's September 25th game against Harvard at Brown Stadium.
Saturday's game feature Brown's full offense against its full defense with limited special teams, and a modified point scoring system to determine the winner.
Estes' football squad finished third in the Ivy League standings a year ago and expects to be back in the thick of the Ivy title race once again.
On offense, the Bears will look to find some wide receivers to replace NFL signees Bobby Sewall (Tennessee) and Buddy Farnham (Tampa). First team All-Ivy quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero '11 will direct Brown's high powered offense, with the dynamic running duo of second team All-Ivy Zack Tronti '11 and Spiro Theodhisi '12 providing the Bears' rushing attack.
Defensively, second team All-Ivy corner back AJ Cruz '13 returns along with senior inside linebacker Andrew Serrano (32 tackles) and senior outside linebacker Robert Gillett. Sophomore All-Ivy punter Nate Lovett is also returning for the Bears. Again, the Bears are looking to find replacements for NFL draftee David Howard (Tennessee) and recent NFL free agent James Develin (Cleveland).
