#8 Men's Crew Set For Eastern Sprints

Ranked eighth in the nation and sixth in the EARC final seedings poll, the Brown men's crew will look to advance to the finals at this year's EARC Sprints, held on Lake Quinsigamond this Sunday, May 15. The Bears' first and second freshmen eights will look to capture gold medals as they have been ranked number one throughout the season.

The Bears varsity eight finished up the regular season strongly, winning two of its last three races to close out the season 2-3 overall. Brown must contend with top ranked Harvard, last year's national champion, in its opening heat at Sprints. The Bears will race in lane two of the heat, which also features Dartmouth, Rutgers and Columbia. Brown defeated the seventh seeded Big Green by three seconds back on April 23, lost to the Crimson in its first race of the spring season and did not face Rutgers and Columbia.

The top two crews in each heat will advance to the grand finals while the third and fourth place finishers will compete in the petite final. The last place finisher will race in the third level final.

Brown's second varsity eight, seeded eighth, will face top- seeded Navy, sixth seeded Harvard, seventh seeded Wisconsin, and 13th seeded Rutgers in its morning heat.

Both the first and second freshmen eights earned number one seedings. The first freshmen will face sixth seeded Boston University, seventh seeded Navy, 12th seeded Rutgers and 13th seeded Cornell in its morning heat. The Bears easily defeated the Terriers last weekend in their final race of the regular season.

The second freshmen eight will row against fourth seeded Rutgers, fifth seeded Boston University, eighth seeded Georgetown and last seeded MIT. Similar to the first freshmen, Brown cruised to an 11 second win over the Terriers and has yet to see action against the other crews.

The Bears placed three of its four boats in the grand finals at last year's EARC Sprints. Brown's second freshmen eight took the gold medal while the first freshman eight rook second in the grand finals. The Bears' junior varsity eight placed fourth in the grand finals while the varsity eight took fifth in the petite finals.
