Middletown, CT - The Brown men's crew freshmen team excelled at the Head Of The Connecticut Regatta in Middletown,CT on Sunday Oct. 13. Coach Matt Carlson's Brown freshmen were swamped by the wash from a passing fishing boat six minutes into their race and spent 20 minutes in the water, clinging to the gunwales of their shell before being picked up. The team easily placed first and second in men's youth fours and took third place in men's championship eights.
The Brown men's varsity crew, which had won the Head Of The Ohio at Pittsburgh last Sunday, finished second to Harvard in two events at the Stonehurst Regatta in Rochester, NY.
Head Coach Paul Cooke was encouraged by his crew's showing. "After last season we had a number of steps to make up and we've begun to take them,'' said Cooke.
Brown will enter crews in men's and women's championship eights, two crews in men's championship fours, one crew in women's championship fours and one crew each in men's and women's youth eights at the Head Of The Charles Regatta next Sunday, Oct. 20, in Cambridge, MA.
