Rochester, NY - The Brown varsity eights competed at the annual Stonehurst Regatta over the weekend to open up their fall season. Both crews posted solid results with the varsity eight hauling in a second place finish behind defending national champion Harvard and the second varsity eight capturing a seventh overall finish.
In the morning, each boat raced a three mile course. The varsity eight took a fifth place finish while the second varsity eight took eighth. In the afternoon's 1,500 meter race, the Brown varsity nearly pulled out an upset over the Crimson, finishing just 0.3 seconds behind for second place. The second varsity moved up a spot in the 1,500 course race, taking seventh overall.
The times of the two races were added together to compile the final overall finishes. The Harvard varsity placed first overall, 16 seconds ahead of Brown.
The crews will return to action in two weeks for the annual Head of the Charles Regatta.
