This race marked the second consecutive competition at Princeton for the Bears. On Saturday, Princeton won the 2,000-meter race in 5:37, a second ahead of Oxford, with Brown eight seconds further back. Victoria, British Columbia finished fourth. Cambridge University was fifth and the Princeton lightweight varsity finished sixth.
Brown was very close with Princeton and Oxford through the first thousand meters but then in Brown coach Paul Cooke's words, "those two rowed out really hard and well together.'' Cooke stayed with the same varsity lineup he has used throughout the season but said he may try switching people around in hopes of getting more speed out of the boat. "We have to find a way to get back up in there,'' he said.
Brown's second-varsity and first freshman eights had the week off from competition. The Bears will return to action next weekend, May 19 at the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, MA.
