Providence, R.I. - Squaring off at home against Northeastern in the annual Dreissigacker Cup on Saturday afternoon, the Brown men's crew came away with a big win, sweeping the Huskies. The varsity eight highlighted the action, as the Bears took an exciting two-second win over Northeastern.
The action kicked off with the varsity four, as the Bears rowed a strong opener, crossing the line at 6:32. Northeastern came in at 6:44, trailing by several lengths of open water. Next up was the second varsity eight, which captured another impressive win, knocking off the Huskies by a 12-second margin. Brown crossed the line in 5:36, just four seconds behind Northeastern's first boat. The visitors' second varsity came in at 5:48, once again trailing by open water.
Things then shifted to the varsity eight, which was the most competitive event of the afternoon. After a close back-and-forth race, Brown's varsity pulled out a win at the end, crossing the line in 5:30.04, the fastest time of the season. Northeastern followed just over two seconds later at 5:32.76. Brown then completed the sweep with the freshman eight, taking another relatively easy victory when the first freshman boat came in at 5:41, 11 seconds ahead of Northeastern.
The Bears will be back in action next weekend, when they travel to Hanover to take on the Dartmouth Big Green.
