April 4, 2004

Providence, RI - The Brown men's crew team opened up the 2004 season with a four-race sweep over Boston University on Saturday. The varsity eight finished over a second ahead of the Terriers with a time of 5:42.2. BU finished in 5:43.2

Stroked by junior Terrence Kooyker, the Bears moved out on the Terriers in the third 500 and briefly had a seat of open-water advantage. The Terriers struck back but Brown was able to hold them off, winning by over a deck length.

The Bears dominated the three other races, earning the sweep. In the second varsity eight, Brown won by over 12 seconds. The first freshman race was won by just under 10 seconds as the Bears finished in 5:56.5 compared to BU's 6:06.3 finish.

Brown easily won the second freshman race, timing in at 6:14.4, over 13 seconds ahead of the Terriers.

Brown continues action next weekend at home against Harvard. The races are set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
