Men’s Crew Earns 12 IRA All-Academic Selections

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Brown University men's crew team had 12 student-athletes named to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's (IRA) All-Academic Team, recently announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). 


The All-Academic team recognizes student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.35 or better, are at least a sophomore at their respective institution, and are a varsity letterwinner. In all, 191 student athletes received the honor across 25 institutions.

The list of Brown student-athletes recognized on the IRA All-Academic Team includes seniors Owen Traynor (Fairfield, Conn.) and Susan Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Morgan Gerlak (Baltimore, Md.) of the varsity eight boat that placed third overall at the IRA Championships. Alex Berner (Williamsville, Vt.), Danny Delaney (Hinsdale, Ill.), Julia Franckh (Munich, Germany), Paxton Major (Providence, R.I.), Anthony Mantegani (Kent, Conn.), Alec Meade (New York, N.Y.), Walker Mills (Wynnewood, Pa.), William Quirk (Rumson, N.J.) and Whiting Tennis (Mazama, Wash.) round out the rest of the Brown selections.

The Bears are coming off another impressive season after finishing second overall in team points at the IRA Championships while a total of four boats earned medals at the three-day event. In addition, the Bears were runner-up at the EARC Eastern Sprints in the varsity eight before picking up victories in the second and third varsity events.
