Brown Varsity Boats Defend Titles at Head of the Genesee
Rochester, N.Y. – A week after the rookies took the water for Brown, the varsity finally got its chance on Saturday at the Head of the Genesee. Brown entered three eights in the open event and one boat in the open four and the Brown crews went on to defend their titles in both events.
The Genesee consists of a morning three-mile race and an afternoon 1,500-meter race. The times from the two events are combined to determine the champion.
Brown's varsity eight boat won its race convincingly, in open water fashion, defeating Ivy League-rival Cornell.
The Bears' four was made up of third and fourth varsity boat oarsmen and went on to hold off a strong challenge from the Rochester Institute of Technology for the victory.
Bruno returns to the water at the Head of the Charles next weekend on Saturday, October 20.
