    Leeming, Weiss Take Silver at U23 World Championships; Gerlak Earns Bronze in 4- PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Hunter Leeming (Sarasota, Fla.) and Anders Weiss (Barrington, R.I.), rising juniors on the Brown men’s crew team, helped the United States win a silver medal at the U23 World Rowing Championship over the weekend in Linz, Austria. The Brown duo rowed in the heavyweight eight, while rising senior Morgan Gerlak (Baltimore, Md.) earned a bronze medal in the straight four.

    Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

    Lucas McGee '01 Named USRowing's Men's National Team Coach USRowing has hired Lucas McGee and Bryan Volpenhein as men’s coaches for the United States National Team, the organization announced on Tuesday, November 6. Both men will be responsible for the men's high performance sweep squad and will work in concert to develop, select and prepare the team for international competition.

    Men's Crew Concludes Fall Campaign with a Strong Showing at the Foot of the Charles The Brown men's rowing team concluded the fall portion of their 2012-2013 season at the Foot of the Charles on Saturday, November 17. The race was held on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts, and featured the open four event, as well as the freshmen eight event. Brown had the opportunity to compete with some of the best rowing programs in the area, as they took to the water with squads from Harvard, Northeastern, Boston University, Boston College and MIT.

    Paul Cooke Honored as the 2012 Fan's Choice Collegiate Coach of the Year Head Men’s Crew Coach Paul Cooke has been named the 2012 Fan’s Choice Collegiate Coach of the Year, an award decided upon by the rowing community. According to the US Rowing website, nearly 33,000 votes were cast for the seven different categories in the poll, sponsored by the sport’s national governing body and Row2K Media. Cooke is the second consecutive Brown coach to win this award, as Head Women’s Coach John Murphy was honored with the same title last year.

    Freshman Eight Victorious at Head of the Charles The Brown rookies kicked off the Head of the Charles Regatta in grand fashion, taking the top spot in its event. The freshman boat did so in highly impressive fashion, winning the club eight event, setting a course record. Brown also entered its top two varsity boats into the championship eight event with them finishing seventh and eighth overall.

Willoughby comes to College Hill with a wealth of rowing experience and knowledge and will immediately step in as the Freshman Coach, working directly with the Bears’ novice oarsmen.
