PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's crew showed off its speed on Saturday as the varsity eight won its sixth-straight Dreissigacker Cup against Northeastern. Brown's JV8, which also raced against NU's varsity, also finished ahead of the Huskies.
In the varsity race, the both Northeastern and Brown were even at 750 meters but the powered to a seven-seat lead at about 1,000 meters. By 1,500 Brown had open water and won by three lengths. With the victory, Brown now leads the series 26-20.
The junior varsity boat was in a tight race with the Husky V8 through the second half of the race and pulled away in the final 600 meters to go from even to a full length.
"The varsity got off to a great start and had a good second half, while the JV was impressive in a a win over a varsity crew," said head coach Paul Cooke.
The freshman crews were even at 800, but NU made a move and had a 4 seat lead at 1,000 meters. At 1,500 the Huskies increased their the lead to a length and maintained that over the final 500 meters.
