Providence, RI - The ECAC recently announced the field for this season's men's crew IRA National Championship Regatta, with five Brown boats earning spots among the prestigious field. The Bears received bids for each of the heavyweight events, and will compete in the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Freshman 8, Varsity 4, and Open 4 races, where they will look to build on a third place overall finish last season.
"We are honored to have each of our boats selected," said head coach Paul Cooke. "Our team is looking forward to getting down to Camden and competing for a national championship."
Last year in Sacramento, the Bears took fourth place in the Varsity 8, and placed third nationally in the team standings, each of which was the highest mark by an East Coast or Ivy League crew. Brown won two medals in 2009, as the second 8 and freshman 8 took second and third respectively, again leading all Ivy schools in both cases.
So far in 2010, Bruno has continued to row well, as the Bears compiled an undefeated dual season, including 4-0 against league opponents. At last weekend's EARC Sprints, Brown took third in the varsity 8, and saw the second 8 pick up a victory, continuing to build momentum as the team moves towards IRA's.
Brown will have two weeks off following the Sprints, and will resume racing on June 3, when the Bears travel to Camden, New Jersey to compete for a national championship at the IRA Regatta.
