Providence, RI - Brown freshman forward Mark MacDonald (Lexington, MA) was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for his play in leading Brown (4-4) to wins over Hartford and New Hampshire last week. MacDonald is the third different Brown freshman to earn Ivy Rookie of the Week honors this season.
MacDonald made the difference in leading Brown to its fourth straight victory, 76-64, over New Hampshire, scoring a career high 25 points in 24 minutes of play. He connected on 10 of 12 field goals against the Wildcats, including 3 of 4 from three-point range. He also converted 2 of 2 free throws vs. UNH, grabbed three rebounds and blocked 2 shots. With the Bears clinging to a four-point lead with just over one minute to play, MacDonald followed up on a missed Jason Forte field goal attempt, grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on a lay-up to give the Bears a six-point lead with 1:13 remaining. At that point, the Bears had not scored a field goal since MacDonald connected on a jump shot with 6:04 left in the game. Earlier in the week, MacDonald scored 5 points in Brown's win over Hartford.
The former Lexington High School star is averaging 8.3 points per game for the Bears and is shooting 53 percent from three point range (10 of 19). He leads the Bears with 7 blocked shots.
