West Branch Basketball Academy Tops Brown in Men's Basketball Exhibition

Former Holy Cross standout Brian Wilson scored 26 points to lead the West Branch Basketball Academy to a 90-71 win over Brown in a men's basketball exhibition game at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

West Branch led from start to finish, opening the game by outscoring the Bears by a 15-5 margin. Wilson scored 14 of his game high 26 points in the first half as West Branch built a 54-41 halftime lead. Wilson went on to connect on a game high five three point baskets.

Brown made a run in the second half, pulling to within five points of West Branch, 70-65 on a layup by sophomore Ben Logan with 8:07 left in the game. But West Branch outscored the Bears 10-0 to take control of the game, extending its lead to 80-65 on two free throws by Steve Miles with 4:22 remaining.

Senior forward Jaime Kilburn led the Bears with 16 points. Also scoring in double figures for Brown were sophomore Andrew Salter with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting from three point range, senior Pat Powers with 11 points and freshman Sam Manhanga with 10 points.

Chris Thompson, formerly of Northwest Louisiana State, scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for West Branch, while Rickey White, a former standout at Maine, tossed in 13 points and pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.

West Branch, based in Orange, California, is made up of former collegiate stars and coached by former Jacksonville head coach Bob Gottlieb.

Brown will open its 2003-2004 season on Monday, November 17 against head coach Rick Barnes and the University of Texas Longhorns in Austin Texas.
