Providence, Rhode Island - Brown sophomore center Alai Nuualiitia scored a career high 26 points on 10 of 12 shooting from the field to lead the Bears to an 81-73 non-league win over Northeastern. The win snaps a three-game losing streak and lifts Brown to 7-9 overall, while Northeastern has now lost three straight games, falling to 4-16 overall.
Brown held a 42-32 lead at the half and extended its lead to 13 points, 45-32, on a lay-up and a free throw by Nuualiitia to open the second half. The Huskied clawed back with an 8-0 run to cut the Brown lead to 45-40 on a lay-up by junior Ricky Cranford with 16:46 left to play.
After Brown built its lead back up to 12 points, 63-51, Northeastern made one last run and trailed 68-62 with 6:35 remaining to play on a three point basket by Jean Bain. Nuualiitia answered with a dunk on Brown's next possession, and the Bears coasted the rest of the way.
Nuualiitia also excelled on the defensive end, grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. Brown sophomore Earl Hunt, the Ivy League's leading scorer, tossed in 21 points and handed out seven assists. Junior guard Jesse Wood came off the bench to score all 8 of his points in the second half.
Northeastern was led by Jean Francois, who scored 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field. Cranford scored 17 points and bain added 10 points for the Huskies.
