Brown University freshman guard Jason Forte (Rockville, MD) was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for his performance in an 87-82 win over Yale that kept Brown undefeated in the Ivy League, and in sole possession of first place in the Ivy League standings. Forte earned Ivy Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week and third time this season.
Brown extended its winning streak to five games with the win over Yale, extending its record to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy standings, the Bears' best Ivy start since the1986 Ivy championship team opened with a 3-0 mark. Brown's 12-4 start is the best since the 1944-45 team opened at 11-4, before finishing with a 15-4 mark.
The 6-1 Forte tossed in a game high 21 points, including 15 points in the first half, to lead Brown to an 87-82 win over Yale in New Haven. He hit 5 of 9 shots from the field and converted 10 of 13 free throws, while pulling down five rebounds.
Forte has emerged as one of the top playmakers in the Ivy League. His 79 assists leads Brown and ranks second in the Ivy League (4.3 apg), while his 1.69 steals per game are third in the league. He is averaging 11.0 points per game, including a season high 22 points against Rhode Island.
