Brown University junior guard Jason Forte (Rockville, MD) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week in men's basketball after scoring 26 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and handing out four assists in Friday's overtime victory over Yale in New Haven.
A first team All-Ivy selection for the Bears last year, Forte started out slow, but came on strong in the overtime victory over the Elis. He was 0-6 and scored four points in the first half as Brown trailed, 31-30.
Forte exploded for 14 points in the second half and 8 points in overtime to claim game high scoring honors with 26 points. He connected on 5 of 8 shots in regulation and was 1 of 1 from the field in overtime. His free throw shooting kept the Elis from getting back in the game, connecting on 6 of 6 free throws in overtime, and 13 of 15 free throws for the game. Forte also logged 44 minutes in the 45-minute game.
Brown's second leading scorer with 12.5 points per game, Forte has connected on 291 career free throws, 10th best in Brown basketball history, while his 291 career assists are 7th best for a Brown career. Forte is poised to become one of Brown's Top 25 All-Time Career Scorers, now with 844 career points in 69 games for the Bears.
Forte and his Brown teammates will have a rematch with the Bulldogs this Friday, January 23rd, at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. and will be televised live on the Comcast system.
