Providence, RI - Senior Jason Forte's 19 points weren't enough as Brown dropped an 84-71 decision to Holy Cross at the Pizzitola Sports Center, ending a four-game winning streak for the Bears (4-5).
Brown trailed 50-42 at the half with Forte scoring 13 of his 19 points. The Bears pulled to within two points of the Crusaders in the second half, 58-56, on a three-point jumper by freshman Damon Huffman with 12:25 remaining.
After Holy Cross opened up a 64-58 advantage, the Bears got back to within three points, trailing 64-61 with 10:31 left to play on a trey by freshman Mark McAndrew. The Crusaders put the game away with a 12-1 spurt to grab a 76-62 lead on two free throws by Kevin Hamilton with 4:37 left in the game.
Four of Brown's starters scored in double figures. Forte converted 13 of 13 free throws in scoring his 19 points. Junior Luke Ruscoe netted 15 points, while sophomore PJ Flaherty tossed in a career high 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. Huffman also scored in double figures with 10 points.
The Crusaders were led by Keith Simmons, who scored a game high 30 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field and 6 of 6 shooting from behind the three-point arc.
The Bears will be back in action next week at the University of Central Florida Holiday Invitational, December 28-29, in Orlando, Florida.
