Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore center Tim Clifford scored 15 of his game high 21 points in the first half to lead Holy Cross to a 64-41 non-league victory over Brown. The win evened the Crusaders record at 4-4, while Brown falls to 1-5 for the season.
The Bears stayed close to the Crusaders for most of the first half and trailed by five points, 26-21, following two free throws by junior Sam Manhanga with 4:57 remaining. The Crusaders outscored the Bears, 11-1, for the remainder of the half to grab a 37-22 lead at halftime. Clifford's 15 first half points came on 7 of 9 shooting from the field, while teammate Keith Simmons tossed in 12 first half points.
The Crusaders maintained control of the game in the second half behind the play of senior guard Kevin Hamilton, who scored 12 second half points.
Brown's shooting woes continued from behind the three-point arc, shooting 12-percent, connecting on 2 of 16 shots from three point range. The Bears shot just 28 percent from the field, hitting 14 of 49 field goals.
Manhanga provided an inside presence for the Bears, scoring 18 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field, and connecting on 8 of 8 free throws. He also grabbed a team high five rebounds. Senior Luke Ruscoe added seven points for the Bears.
Clifford scored his 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field. He also added 4 blocked shots for the Crusaders. Simmons finished the game with 14 points.
Brown will be on the road again on Saturday for the sixth time in seven games when the Bears battle Binghamton in Binghamton, New York. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
