Brown Rally Falls Short, Bears Fall To Maine, 79-69

Orono, Maine - Senior guard Eric Dodson scored 19 points and sophomore guard Kevin Reed added 17 points to lead Maine to a 79-69 win over Brown in the championship game of the Maine Invitational. The win extends Maine's record to 3-1 overall while Brown drops to 2-3.
Maine opened up a 16 point first half lead, 40-24, on a three-point basket by Reed with 3:00 remaining in the half. The Bears clawed back to score the last four points of the half on two layups by sophomore Luke Ruscoe to trail 40-28 at intermission.
Brown mounted a furious second half comeback and pulled to within one point of the Black Bears, 50-49, on two free throws by freshman Marcus Becker with 8:38 remaining in the game. But the Black Bears put the game away with a 21-5 run, ignited by two three-point baskets by Reed.
The Bears were led by senior Pat Powers, who connected on seven three-point baskets to score a game-high 23 points. Senior Jaime Kilburn chipped in 12 points for Brown.
Dodson scored 12 of his team high 19 points in the first half, while Reed netted 12 of his 17 points in the second half. David Dubois added 13 points for the Black Bears.
Brown will be back in action on Wednesday against intra-state rival Rhode Island. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
