Brown Falls to Central Connecticut in Mohegan Sun Classic Championship

Senior center Corsley Edwards scored 18 points and grabbed 11rebounds to lead host Central Connecticut to a 66-60 come-from-behind win over Brown in the championship game of the Mohegan Sun Classic. Edwards, who had 25 points and 17 rebounds in the opening round, was named Mohegan Sun Classic MVP.
Following nine lead changes in the second half, Brown grabbed a 49-47 lead when junior center Alai Nuualiitia scored on a layup with 4:45 remaining in the game. Central Connecticut's Jon Popofski came off the bench give the Blue Devils the lead for good, hitting two consecutive three point baskets.His second trey gave Central a 53-49 advantage with 2:55 left to play.
"We played with a lot of intensity, and our players will learn a lot from this experience," said Brown coach Glen Miller. "Edwards dominated the first half, but our players learned and did a great job of stopping him in the second half."
Brown trailed by as many as six points in the first half, 26-20, before climbing to within a point at intermission, 26-25, following a three point basket by sophomore Brad Simpson, and two free throws by freshman guard Jason Forte. Central's Edwards was dominating in the paint, scoring 12 points and pulling down 9 rebounds in the half.
Brown's Earl Hunt led all scorers with 20 points, while Forte scored a season high 11 points for the Bears. Hunt moved into 14th place on Brown's all-time career scoring list with 1,036 points, passing Eric Blackiston, who scored 1,031 points from 1992 to 1996.
Both Hunt and Nuualiitia were named to the All-Tournament team for Brown.
Brown, now 1-1 overall, returns to action Tuesday evening against Northeastern in Boston.
