Bears Hooked By Longhorns, 89-51
Nov. 17, 2003
Austin, TX - Brown opened its 2003-2004 men's basketball season against 12th-ranked Texas, falling to the Longhorns, 89-51.
Brown caused trouble for the Longhorns in the early going, grabbing its only lead, 3-0, on a three-point basket by sophomore Luke Ruscoe. But that was Brown's last lead of the game as the Bears were unable to keep the taller and more physical Texas team off the boards.
After junior Jason Forte tied the game, 7-7, with 15:26 left in the first half, Texas exploded with a 13-0 run to take control of the game, 20-7. The longhorns went on to hold a 38-21 lead at the half.
Senior forward Jaime Kilburn registered a double-double to lead the Bears, scoring a team high 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Sam Manhanga played well in his first collegiate game, netting 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting from the field. Junior Jason Forte added 9 points, while handing out four assists.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, 11/21, on the road against the Rider College Broncs.
