Providence, RI - Senior Patrick Powers scored 25 points and junior Jason Forte completed a triple-double, scoring 11 points, pulling down 12 rebounds, and tallying 10 assists to lead Brown to a 77-54 Ivy League win over Dartmouth at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown set the tone early, scoring the first 14 points of the game en route to a 21-3 lead by the12:45 mark of the first half. The Big Green pulled to within nine, when Mike McLaren,s 3-pointer sliced the Bears, lead to 33-24, with 5:27 remaining in the half. The Bears scored on a Mike Martin 3-pointer and a driving lay-up by Forte in the final 1:22 to head into halftime up 40-29.
Brown started the second half with another rally, outscoring the Big Green 16-4 in the opening 7:52 to take a 56-33 lead with 12:08 to play. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Michael Lang and McLaren allowed Dartmouth to pull to 56-40 with 10:16 remaining. Brown responded with 10 straight points, taking a 66-40 lead with 7:32 to go and effectively sealing the game.
After making eight assists and four rebounds in the first half, Forte pulled down six rebounds in the first 6:12 of the second half. He collected his tenth assist with 4:12 to play, and then completed his triple-double with a layup and foul shot with 3:09 remaining.
The Bears shot 46.8 percent from the field during the game, as compared with 33.3 percent for the Big Green. Brown out-rebounded Dartmouth by a 43-31 margin.
With the win, Brown (12-12, 8-3) maintained its second-place position in the Ivy League while Dartmouth (3-22, 1-10) dropped its 15th straight game.
Forte's triple-double is the first at Brown in over 16 years. Martin scored 15 pointsand six assists for the Bears while Jaime Kilburn added 14. McLaren led the Big Green with 12 points.
