Men's Basketball Goes To 9-1 In Ivy League With 70-62 Win Over Cornell

Senior guard Earl Hunt scored 20 points and Jason Forte added 18 points to lead Brown to a 70-62 Ivy League win win over Cornell. The Bears have now won 11 of their last 12 games and are 14-10 overall, 9-1 in the Ivy League, just a half game behind Penn in the Ivy standings.
The Big Red jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, taking advantage of five Brown turnovers in the first 4:07 of the game. Brown evened the score at 12-12 when Jaime Kilburn converted a put-back of a Jason Forte pull-up with 10:22 remaining. With the game tied at 22 inside of five minutes, Brown scored nine straight points, capped off by a Kilburn lay-up. Cornell closed to within four points before Earl Hunt scored on a fade-away buzzer-beater to give Brown a 33-27 lead at halftime.
With 14:52 to play in the game, Cody Toppert closed the gap to 39-36 with a back-door layup. Brown responded with a 18-10 run over the next 7:08 to build up a 57-46 lead with 7:44 remaining. Hunt scored 10 points during that span, including back-to-back 3-pointers which got things started.
Inside the four-minute mark, the Bears missed three straight free throws on the front-end of one-and-ones, allowing the Big Red to claw to within six points, at 66-60. However, strong Brown defense and 4-for-4 foul shooting in the final minute prevented the late comeback.
Senior Alai Nuualiitia, who was 5 of 5 from the field, registered a double-double for the Bears, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Junior Jaime Kilburn netted 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field.
Ka'Ron Barnes of Cornell (8-15, 3-7) led all scorers with a career-high 30 points.
