PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Jason Forte scored 19 points and had eight assists off the bench Monday night as Brown defeated Coast Guard 99-67.
Brown (9-4) scored the first seven points and never looked back, connecting on 48 percent of its shots, including 9-of-22 from 3-point range.
Coast Guard (5-4), a Division III school, narrowed the early deficit to 13-8 with 14:13 to go in the first half, but Brown went on a 12-5 run to build a 25-13 lead.
Forte had seven points in a 14-0 Brown run late in the half to give the Bears a 46-28 halftime lead.
Brown continued its dominance after halftime, although six second-half 3-pointers by Coast Guard's Jim Hiltz (7 of 17 on 3-pointers) kept his team in the game.
Brown opened the second half with a 9-2 run and went 15-of-18 from the line to build the lead as high as 34.
Hiltz led Coast Guard with 23 points, followed by Sam Cheung with 19. Five Brown players scored in double figures, including Earl Hunt with 17 and Alai Nuualiitia with 16.
Coast Guard turned the ball over 22 times, which led to 32 Brown points.
