Uncasville, Conn. – Khalid Heart scored a game high 27 points and Brian Parker added 21 points to lead Marist (1-3) to an 87-79 win over Brown at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Bears (1-3) will face Albany on Sunday evening, November 20, at 8:00 pm at the Mohegan Sun to complete play in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.
Three Brown players scored in double figures, led by senior forward Steven Spieth (Dallas, TX), who scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while pulling down a team high seven rebounds.
Bears' senior guard JR Hobbie (Spring Lake, NJ) had 12 points, all on treys, connecting on 4-of-6 shots from beyond the three point arc. Sophomore Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) chipped in with 11 points for the Bears.
Hart connected on 6-of-7 treys and 9-of-12 field goals overall in scoring 27 points. Parker added seven assists to go with his 21 points.
Brown was slow getting out of the gate and fell behind by 13 points, 22-9 with 11:10 left in the half following a trey by Heart.
The Bears clawed back with an 11-0 run and cut the Red Foxes lead to two points, 22-20, on a baseline jumper by Okolie with 7:53 remaining in the half.
Bears' sophomore Matt Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) connected on a trey with 4:10 left in the half cut Marist's lead to one point, 31-30.
The Red Foxes led 40-37 at the half and extended their lead to 51-41 with 12:59 remaining following a trey by Brian Parker.
Parker gave Marist its biggest lead of the game, 70-54, on a layup with 5:24 remaining.
