Providence, R.I. - Brown freshman guard Steven Spieth (Dallas, TX) was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season after he kept the Bears in title contention with solid play over the weekend, highlighted by a career high 20-point performance against Dartmouth. Spieth's selection is Brown's seventh Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree this season.
Against Harvard, Spieth was assigned to Wesley Saunders whenever he was in the game and held him to 2-12 shooting from the field. He finished with four points, six rebounds and two assists against the Crimson.
The next night against Dartmouth, Spieth sparked a 17-3 run to open the game with eight points and scored 13 of his 20 points in the opening half to help the Bears build a 42-33 lead at intermission. Spieth connected on 4-of-10 field goals and 11-of-13 free throws against the Big Green.
Spieth is averaging 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Bears, who stand in third place in the Ivy League standings with a 4-2 league mark, 12-8 overall.
Brown hosts Princeton and Penn next weekend at the Pizzitola Sports Center, facing the Tigers on Friday evening, February 14, at 7:00 pm, and the Quakers on Saturday, February 15 at 6:00 pm.
